According to Kentucky labor force estimates, Grayson County was shown as a having a civilian labor force of 12,026.
Of that number, 11,040 people were reported as working while 986 people were reported unemployed.
In Grayson County the unemployment numbers seem to be on the rise.
In September 2004, the unemployment rate was listed at 6 percent. This September, that number has risen by 2.2 percent to 8.2 percent.
In August 2005, unemployment county-wide was listed at 7.6 percent.
And of the eight counties that make up the Lincoln Trail Area (Breckinridge, Grayson, Hardin, LaRue, Marion, Meade, Nelson and Washington) Grayson showed the highest rate of unemployment, followed by Breckinridge at 6 percent.
The remaining Lincoln Trail counties were in the 5 percent range, with the exception of Washington County, which stood at 4.8 percent unemployment.
Like Grayson, the seven other Lincoln Trail counties also showed a steady unemployment increase from a year ago this September.
In both September 2004 and September 2005, one county had a jobless rate at or above 10 percent.
Woodford County's 3.8 percent jobless rate was the lowest in the commonwealth.
Other low rates were recorded in Anderson, Fayette and Jessamine counties, 4.1 percent each; Franklin, Madison, Oldham and Webster counties, 4.2 percent each; and Rowan, Scott and Warren counties, 4.4 percent each.
Magoffin County recorded the state's highest unemployment rate - 10.5 percent.
It was followed by Elliott County, 9.4 percent; Clay County, 8.3 percent; Grayson, Graves and Wolfe counties, 8.2 percent each; Carter and Leslie counties, 7.9 percent each; and Lewis and Morgan counties, 7.8 percent each.
Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than actually to count people working.
Civilian labor force statistics include non-military workers and unemployed Kentuckians who are actively seeking work.
They do not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for employment within the past four weeks.
