Gas shortage? Not a problem for a bean run

It's the topic of every conversation -- gas prices.

I didn't think I would ever see the day I would pay $3 for a gallon of gas. But with the price of gas rising daily, I'm sure to see more pocket-draining days at the gas pump in the near future.

But when the price of $2 a gallon hit us, I was thinking the same thing. But that seems amazingly cheap these days and most of us would be glad to pay that price again, but the way it's looking those days are history.

My van is not the most gas-efficient vehicle around, but even with a gas saving vehicle, it still doesn't last long. I just love to push my luck to see how far I can go on a full tank, and my husband gets more aggravated every time I call him to tell him I've ran out of gas.

It just seems like such a chore to pull in and get gas, and today, who knows, they may even ask for a leg when you tell them to "Fill it up!"

Maybe I should consider buying a horse and buggy. But I don't know how that would work out since I'm scared of horses and I'm not sure if they even make a 6-passenger buggy.

The kids wouldn't know what to do with themselves getting to ride to town in a buggy, not having to wear a seat belt and feeling the wind in their face as we pull into Wal-Mart. All of it's mind-boggling! Gas brings the groceries, runs the school buses, delivers medicine to the drug store, etc. etc. etc....

It would definitely be a longer trip than usual, but we probably wouldn't hear them complain about the distance one time, unless it was rainy and cold. Maybe it's too soon to panic about the price of gas, and I know the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina is much more devastating than me having to pay more at the gas pumps. But the gas has gone up since the Hurricane hit and gas seems to make the world go round.

My mom seems to panic when there is a national catastrophe so I know I have at least a couple of days to clean out my cabinets before she turns into the driveway sideways bringing me a year's worth of beans and 12 loaves of bread to freeze; she's like that.
