A two-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon (Aug. 28) on the Western Kentucky Parkway sent four people to the hospital.

According to reports from the Grayson County Sheriff's Department, a 2002 Nissan being driven by Nathan T. Clark, 19, of Louisville, was traveling west on the parkway (six miles west of Leitchfield) when he apparently lost control of his vehicle.

Due to the rain, Clark's vehicle hydroplaned and went across the median, where it struck a 2004 Saturn being driven by Beverly V. Browning, 54, of Bowling Green, who was traveling east.

Reports said that both vehicles came to rest in the median.

Both Clark and Browning, along with two other passengers in Browning's vehicle, Robbi Browning, 21, and Tracy Browning, 32, were taken by the Grayson County EMS to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center where they were treated for injuries sustained in the crash.

The accident occurred shortly after 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Captain Bryan Hammons with the Grayson County Sheriff's Department also reported two other accidents over the weekend, with one resulting in an arrest for driving under the influence.

According to Hammons, a non-injury accident in Caneyville Friday (Aug. 26) resulted in Christopher L. Newton, 26, of 5837 Caney Creek Church Road, Caneyville, being arrested for driving under the influence (1st offense).

A report filed by Hammons said that a 2002 Ford F350 being driven by Joshua A. Mudd, 26, of 7519 Shrewsbury Road, Leitchfield, was traveling north on KY 185 when Newton failed to stop his 1989 Dodge Raider at the stop sign at Southland Drive.

According to the report, Mudd applied his brakes and attempted to avoid the impact with Newton's vehicle, but was not successful, striking Newton in the rear passenger's side area.

On Saturday (Aug. 27) another two-vehicle accident sent one person to the hospital.

Hammons said that a 2001 Chevrolet C/K 2500 being driven by Harlie Fulkerson, 81, of 910 Carson Drive, Leitchfield, was about to go across KY 224 (Millerstown Road) from Keller School Road to Old Millerstown Road when he pulled out in front of a 1991 Chevy S10 being driven by a 17-year-old male.

The 17-year-old was going toward Clarkson on Millerstown Road and stated that he thought Fulkerson's vehicle was going to stop. He applied his brakes in an attempt to avoid contact with Fulkerson's vehicle but was unable to avoid the collision.

The Grayson County EMS transported the 17-year-old to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Hammons also reported one arrest for arson.

He said that James Hooper, 32, of 965 Ambassador Shores Drive was arrested over the weekend and charged with arson in the third degree after he allegedly set two Confederate flags on fire outside a residence at 1017 Ambassador Shores Drive.

According to Hammons, there were two witnesses who identified Hooper as the man who allegedly started the fires.
