It took a Grayson County jury nearly an hour Wednesday (July 13) to convict a Leitchfield man for his part in manufacturing meth after a two-day trial in Grayson Circuit Court.

John Gregory Grant, 43, of Leitchfield, was found guilty of manufacturing methamphetamine enhan-ced by possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance in the first degree (methamphetamine) enhanced by possession of a firearm.

Following the penalty phase of the trial, the jury recommended that Grant be sentenced to 30 years in prison.

They recommended that Grant be sentenced to 30 years for the manufacturing meth enhanced by possession of a firearm charge, and five years for the possession of a controlled substance charge, all to run concurrent, for a total of 30 years.

Final sentencing for Grant is scheduled for July 19 in Grayson Circuit Court, with Judge Sam Monarch presiding.

Grant, along with five others, including William J. Payne, Jr., 32, of Caneyville, Michael K. Harp, 26, of Leitchfield, Larry Brooks, 28, of Leitchfield, Crystal Lynn Brooks, 24, of Leitchfield, and Lorna D. Garner, 25, of Brownsville, were arrested in February.

Officers with the Grayson County Sheriff's Department, Greater Hardin County Narcotics Task Force and Kentucky State Police executed a search warrant at Payne's home on February 10 and reportedly found an active methamphetamine lab in an unattached garage next to Payne's house.

On May 20 Payne pled guilty to manufacturing methamphetamine, trafficking in a controlled substance in the first degree and possession of marijuana.

Monarch later sentenced Payne to 10 years in prison.

Harp pled guilty on June 21 to manufacturing methamphetamine, trafficking in a controlled substance in the first degree and possession of marijuana.

On July 5 Harp was sentenced by Monarch to 10 years in prison.

Also on July 5 Larry Brooks pled guilty to manufacturing methamphetamine, trafficking in a controlled substance in the first degree and possession of marijuana, while Crystal Brooks pled guilty to trafficking in a controlled substance in the first degree.

They both face 10 years in prison.

Final sentencing for Larry and Crystal Brooks is scheduled for July 19.

Garner's case remains pending.
