BARDSTOWN -- The Lady Cougar basketball team continued its summer schedule with a series of games at the Lady Tiger Team Camp last Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
On Thursday, the varsity won a pair of games against Central Hardin and John Hardin, then split games on Friday with Central again (a 45-28 loss) and Meade County (a 41-14 win). They were scheduled to play Bethlehem Academy and Bullitt Central on Saturday, but no results of those games were available.
The JV squad split a pair of games on Friday, losing to Franklin County, then beating John Hardin 41-26.
VARSITY VS MEADE COUNTY
The Lady Cougars broke open a close game by outscoring the Lady Waves 13-2 in the final 10:42 of the first half.
With the score tied at 5-5. Rachel Romance and Rebecca Meredith hit back-to-back three-pointers to get the Lady Cougar run started. Brittany Bird hit three of four free throws to make it nine straight points and a 14-5 lead at the 8:29 mark.
The Lady Waves closed to within seven with 5:15 left, but Tasha Farris and Romance hit jumpers to close out the half at 18-7.
The Lady Cougars put the game away by opening the second half with a 12-1 run that made it 30-8 with 10:53 left to play. They closed out the game by outscoring Meade 9-1 in the last five minutes.
Bird had eight in the first half and nine in the second to lead all scorers with 17 points. Romance hit a pair of threes for Grayson County and finished with 12. Meredith finished with three, while Farris, Molly Beeler, Laura Downs and Jara Vega Velez all had two to round out the scoring.

The Lady Cougars started fast, scoring the first six points of the game, then building their lead to 12-2 with 12:16 left to play. However, the Lady Bulldogs finished the first half with a 12-5 run to close to within three points, 17-14.
The second half belonged to Grayson County. Meredith had nine of her game-high 13 points, while Shelbi Tyra had eight of her 10 to lead the charge for the Lady Cougars. Grayson County opened the half with a 13-5 run then had a 7-0 run just before the end of the game.
Heather Baxter finished the game with seven points and Kelli Williams had four. Tiffany Brooks had three while Hannah Anderson and Tara Snyder had two apiece to complete the scoring.
