A Leitchfield woman was not injured after an early morning collision with a horse on Thursday (Apr. 21).

Sheriff Department reports stated that Tonya H. Decker, 35, of 144 Thomas Drive in Leitchfield, was traveling east (about 9 miles from Leitchfield) on Highway 54 around 1:30 a.m. when a horse ran out in front of her vehicle.

Decker told deputies that she attempted to avoid hitting the horse but "was not successful."

The horse struck the front of Decker's 1998 Mercury Sable and then landed in the yard of a residence located at 9388 Owensboro Road, which belongs to Cornelius Gibson. The horse was killed on impact.

The horse, according to its owner, Danny Gibson, of 2215 Elizabethtown Road, Leitchfield, "was his grandchildren's pony."

Gibson had been keeping the horse at his dad's home on Owensboro Road.
