On Thursday (Feb. 10) Grayson County Judge Executive Gary Logsdon honored the Twin Lakes Car Cruisers at their regular monthly meeting.

He signed a proclamation that proclaimed February 10 through February 28 as Twin Lakes Cruisers "Cruisin for the Community" Month in Grayson County.

In his proclamation Logsdon called Twin Lakes Cruisers "an asset to the community" and he thanked them for their work in helping needy families.

Twin Lakes Car Cruisers was founded in 1998 by a group of car enthusiasts. Since that time the club has grown tremendously and they have made it part of their mission to help the community in a variety of ways.

They want to make it clear, however, that they are not just "a simple car club."

They describe themselves as a "group of individuals who band together as friends for one great purpose, and that purpose is helping those in need while doing what they love."

A misconception that many have about Twin Lakes Cruisers is that you have to own a street rod, muscle car or show vehicle. This, members point out, is far from being the case.

Membership in Twin Lakes Cruisers is not restricted to ownership, rather, the only requirement for membership is that members be of good character and willing to help others in need.

Members of Twin Lakes Cruisers call their club "unique" because of their special focus, which is simply to be of service to the community.

Some of the charitable works Twin Lakes Cruisers have recently accomplished include:

  • Starting a trust fund for a small child who experienced the tragedy of losing both parents. The fund has grown to nearly $5,000.

  • Helped families with medical expenses in both Grayson and Hardin Counties.

  • Helped sponsor Grayson Manor activities table and Angel Tree.

  • Sponsoring Christmas for needy families.

  • Helped sponsor the Annual Halloween bash held at the Grayson County Fairgrounds.
