A Leitchfield man suffered minor injuries New Year's Day in a scuffle with police during his arrest.

According to Leitchfield Police Chief Greg Dennison, officers responded for a second time to a residence at 1311 Asbury Street in Leitchfield, when they found Randy Joe Denham, 31, apparently under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

"When officers attempted to take Denham into custody," Dennison said, "he resisted arrest and in the scuffle, he hit his head and received a minor cut."

Officers with the Leitchfield Police Department also found Denham in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

He was taken to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center for his injuries and then released back into police custody.

He is currently lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center on charges of public intoxication-controlled substance; resisting arrest; and possession of marijuana.
