What was that? A vacation?

Can you really call a vacation a vacation when you're trying to keep together five cars, 13 adults, and seven kids?

Well, maybe it depends on how you look at the situation. Almost all of my husband's mother's family get together every summer and head to Gatlinburg. This affair is becoming a great family tradition, but usually about the third day of our visit everyone gets pretty cranky and we are starting to all get on each others nerves.

It tore Wendy up so badly she forgot how to walk down the steps, and then she had to lock the keys

in their Blazer, but that incident was all Rodney's fault.

Everyone usually did their own thing except when everyone wanted to go to the same place, and then we had walkie-talkies so Barry and Rodney could holler back at the old folks to catch up.

The kids knew we were on vacation, so they tried to get away with everything. They seem to think the child police are everywhere out there and looking for people being mean to children while they pretend to be parents.

Trying to keep up with them at home is hard enough, but try the Nascar Speedpark along with a hundred other kids yelling "No, I want to ride that track!"as they run away from us forgetting that we are their parents, and they are only 6 and 3 years old,and they can't go alone.

Poor Shelby couldn't ride a thing because she's so little, so I had to bribe her with dippin' dots to keep her quiet so people wouldn't think I was a stranger trying to kidnap her.

On our last night there, we attended the Dixie Stampede Dinner and Show. They served whole chickens, and this did not suit Nikolas.

They put the chicken on his plate and he said, "What's that?!"

"It's chicken," I told him.

"No its not. Its real!" he replied. So I started pulling the chicken apart so he could eat it. He watched this intently for a while, then got pretty excited again.

"Beth! Don't eat the eyeballs!" he hollered!

It was a very tiresome trip, but it seems everyone always has a hard time loading up and cleaning the chalet up before we leave for home.

It's something to talk about on boring days.
