Cannon: Let voters decide on same-sex

Fifth District State Senate Candidate Barry Cannon, D-Caneyville, said this week he applauds the House's attempt to leave it up to voters on whether or not to ban same-sex marriage.

"By adopting this amendment, we are affirming what God has already deemed appropriate," he said.

"We are saying to liberal judges that they won't redefine what God has already made."

Cannon, in a news release, said Senate Bill 245 would allow voters in November to ban gay marriages and define marriage as a relationship between a man and a woman.

The bill, if agreed to by a conference committee and signed by the governor, would place a constitutional amendment on the ballot in November, letting voters decide if marriage would be between only a man and a woman.

Cannon left little doubt as to how he would vote.

"I have been married to my wife, Linda, for 25 years, and we have two wonderful sons.

"I do not want a judge coming along and telling me and my family that marriage is something other than what we have taught our children," he said.

"God created marriage for Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve," he said.
