Eastern Kentucky University junior Wendee Embry, from Caneyville, won the 5,000-meter (3.2-mile) race at the Ohio Valley Conference Indoor Championships, held at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Il. on Friday, February 27. Embry was clocked at 17:41 in winning the gold medal, outpacing the second-place runner by a full 28 seconds. She returned to the track on Saturday and earned a bronze medal in the 3,000-meter race.

Embry, a 2001 GCHS graduate, said she truly appreciated all the support and encouragement she receives from Grayson County.

"It's really a big help to know there are people at home who care about how I am running," Embry said. "Track is a sport that gets very little recognition, so it just feels great to know there are many people in Grayson County cheering me on."
