The tournaments proposal headlined discussion Tuesday at the commission's meeting, after members got a research report from Ilsa Johnson, executive director.
Johnson said several surrounding counties hold the tournaments with economic impacts running from $450,000 to $1.8 million.
Johnson said she looked at Marshall, Lyons and Trigg counties, plus the cities of Prestonburg and Cadiz.
Mike Aldridge, commissioner from Falls of Rough, said the commission should "start small, maybe 100 or fewer boats," and try for spring or fall tournaments.
He said the fishing tournament circuit is "big business now, and we'll have to budget some money to attract them."
"I think they (fishing tournaments) would be favorable for the county," he said.
Most commissioners said they looked favorably at trying to attract some tournaments. They decided to budget for that possibility as they put together the coming year's budget.
The Commission could present a package to fishing clubs in the region after it decides how much it can afford to put up to make the clubs put the county on their annual schedules.
The commission tabled discussion of how much and in what way it would be involved in the the coming year's Christmas in the Park at Rough River.
They agreed to discuss it in March, when two members from the Falls of Rough area would be present.
Johnson told the commission the plastic car litter bags with the commission's logo on them have been delivered. She said the 4,000 bags would be handed out at shows over the coming months.
Johnson also asked for volunteers to work at the Indianapolis Trade Show. scheduled for Feb. 20-29.
She asked volunteers to call the Tourism Office.
