Schools support asked for troops and children
Grayson County schools are being asked by the local American Legion Post 81 to participate in two programs responding with the ongoing war in Iraq.
The first is a Pen Pal Program designed to encourage third, fourth, and fifth grade students to send letters to troops serving in the Middle East.
Letters have been shown to boost soldier morale and it can easily be used as a writing exercise in classrooms.
For more information contact: Department of the Army, 553 Corps Support Battalion, Tikrit, Iraq, APO AE 09323-2664, Attn: Lakisha K. Session, CPL.
The second program is Operation Pencil Box. According to Lakisha K. Session, CPL with the 64th Ordnance Company, the program is designed to allow the soldiers to go out into the Iraqi Community and help rebuild the schools.
The mission of the program is to assist in getting whatever supplies the schools may need. Already chalkboards have been supplied by the 664 Company.
For more information contact the local American Legion at 259-6293 and speak with Nancy Lucas.
