1943-2004

Albert Glenn Embrey, age 60, died on Sunday, January 25, 2004.

He was born on December 7, 1943 in Paris, Tenn. as the son of Roscoe and Neva Embrey of Fairdale, Ky. His early years began in Caneyville before his family moved to Fairdale. He married Bonnie Shartzer from Caneyville on May 5, 1965.

Albert worked at Ford Motor Company in Louisville for 30+ years before retiring December 1997 to pursue his interest in refinishing furniture. He also spent considerable time in his orchard and garden, as well as what needed to be done on the farm. Albert was always looking for ways to make things easier for other people, wanting to make them happy. He seemed to be a step ahead of everyone else when repairs were to be made at the church, something needed to be checked on or a thoughtful deed was in order. He was conscientious in the church yard and pavilion having an emaculate appearance.

If you heard Albert ever say "I tell you what", you knew you were about to get his opinion about something. You always knew where he stood on a matter. Whether it was about University of Kentucky basketball (which he dearly loved) and who UK ought to recruit or whether the news of the day suited him-you knew. Albert was always trying to figure out the female "race" (remember the comic strips about "For better or Worse" and "Cathy" he always brought us?). I think he understood them better than most of us-knew when to hold his tongue and when to give his viewpoint.

Albert was a member of the Caneyville Holiness Church until the merging of the House of Prayer at Leitchfield and Caneyville Holiness Church to form the First Apostolic Church at Millwood. He was a trustee at the Caneyville church and was a current trustee at the First Apostolic Church, where he also has been instrumental in the operation of the Food Bank services of the church. Albert was especially helpful in all functions of the church, and his presence will be sorely missed by all!

Albert is survived by his wife, Bonnie Raye Shartzer Embrey; two sons, David Lee of Bowling Green and Glenn Keefe and daughter-in-law Cheryl of Leitchfield; his parents, Roscoe and Neva Embrey of Fairdale; two sisters, Cherri Gayle Owen of Fisherville, Ky. and Mary Gwendolyn Murphy of Louisville. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Bernice Shartzer of Caneyville; sister-in-law, Dr. Carol June Maker of Tucson, Az.; grandchildren, Mercedes, Mariah and Brennen; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and great-nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at the First Apostolic Church in Millwood with Rev. George Langdon officiating. Dermitt Funeral Home in Caneyville was in charge of the arrangements.

Burial was in the Embrey Cemetery in Caneyville.
