With her retirement in December 2003, Lindsey Woosley Shaffar's 30 years of dedication to the children of Grayson County came to an end. It has been a career full of challenges, innovations and changes.
After graduating Cum Laude from Western Kentucky University in 1972, Mrs. Shaffar started her career in the Leitchfield Independent School System.
Upon consolidation, she became part of the new Grayson County Middle School, where she remained until her retirement. She taught social studies and English, depending on the need of the school.
In 1980, Mrs. Shaffar was awarded "Outstanding Educator of the Year" for Grayson County.
She created and developed the "Crossroads" Summer Program for Middle School students. Through her efforts $100,000 was granted to fund a mentoring program for students during the summer months.
This program has a very positive effect on the middle school students, giving them extra support where it was needed.
How many lives has Mrs. Shaffar touched? Too numerous to mention. Either as a teacher, drama club sponsor a mentor, her influence has been immeasurable.
Retirement will not be a time of leisure for Mrs. Shaffar.
She is very active with her volunteer work at the Grayson County Humane Society, where she spends countless hours ensuring quality care and placement of abandoned animals.
Mrs. Shaffar is married to Steve Shaffar. She has one son, Ben.
