LEITCHFIELD -- The seventh-grade Cougars maintained their perfect season last Tuesday with a 55-37 win over visiting Muhlenberg North.

Ten players scored for Grayson County as they won for the sixteenth time against no losses. Travis Johnston led the Cougars with 14 points, while Wes Smith had 11.

It was all Johnston and Smith in the first period. Both players hit three three-pointers as the Cougars pulled away to an 18-13 lead. Johnston added five more in the second period to help the Cougars to a 10-point lead, 25-15 at the half. The Cougar defense held the Stars to just two points in the second period.

The Cougars scored the first five points of the third quarter, making it 11 straight points, and opened up a 30-15 lead. The defense again was superb for the Cougars, holding the Stars to just four third period points and allowing Grayson County to take a 20-point lead, 39-19 heading into the fourth quarter.

North's Jacob Clark hit three three-pointers in the first three minutes of play in the final period, pulling his team to within 11 points of the lead, 44-33 at the 3:17 mark. The Stars would get no closer, though as the Cougars closed things out with an 11-4 run to ice the win.

Aaron Devinney scored eight points for the Cougars, while Chris Stewart had seven. Bennett Skaggs had four, Alphonso Soto had three, and Chris McCoy, Johnathan Higdon, Stephen Jones and Trevor Higdon all had two to complete the scoring.
