The Twin Lakes Cruisers Car Club this week launched a fund drive that will set up a trust fund for Jacob Avery Risner, 3, who was seriously injured as a result of a gunshot wound.

Cruisers President Don Rogers, 112 Buckhorn Lane, Leitchfield, said the fund is set up "because our hearts are touched by any child in need, but this little boy has a real need!"

"He has suffered the loss of both his parents and a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He's in a Louisville hospital, but he has some physical scars to overcome and will be facing many, many years of emotional scars," Rogers said.

Rogers said the club's funds this year are low, the result of help already provided.

"So far this year," he said, "we've helped three families facing devastating illnesses, $300 went to St. Paul School, and $317 went for candy at the fairgrounds Halloween safe spot."

Rogers said the 27-member club raised over $2,100 during 2003, "but much of that is spent, so we're starting near ground zero on the Jacob Risner Fund, but we're not going to let that stop us."

Rogers said anyone wishing to contribute or to get more information on the Jacob Risner Fund can call him at 270-259-6640. Or, he said, donations can be mailed to Twin Lakes Cruisers, PO Box 4172, Leitchfield 42755.

He said flyers outlining the club's past work and how the Jacob Risner Fund will work are being distributed around the county.
