Republican candidate for state auditor, Linda Greenwell of Louisville, has asked for a "recanvass" of the state's 120 counties.

Grayson County's Election Board met Thursday for what amounts to a double-check of the Nov. 4 results in the auditor's race between Grenwall and Democrat Crit Luallen.

Board Members Eugene Harrel and Terry Blain counted absentee ballots and taped totals from machines. At the end of it, the absentee ballots (both machine and paper) gave Greenwell a lead of six votes -- 95 to 89.

When the tape totals were counted, Greenwell came in with 3,304 votes to Luallen's 1,943. Both totals agreed with the county's Nov. 4 final report, said County Clerk Carletta Farris.

Luallen was named winner of the auditor's race on Friday morning, Nov. 5, after all the state's 120 counties had reported results.

She won a single precinct in Grayson County by a single vote -- West Leitchfield.

Farris explained the recanvass is not a recount. "The recount process is one that is handled by district court, but either is the result of a request to the Secretary of State."
