Named to the United Way of Central Kentucky-Grayson County board are officers Terry Tyra, chairman, Sharon Green, vice chair, and Rev. Michael Chesnut, secretary.
Members include Barry Anderson, Mike Boone, Carletta Farris, Kevin Mudd, Sue Sims, Rita Stevenson, Rick Sloan and Susan Asher.
In a news release, the board announced its focus "is to help families and individuals in Grayson County progress toward self-sufficiency.
"The group will give special emphasis to the young, fragile, aging and needy in the county," the release said.
Money the group raises "will be used to fund programs and services within the county."
United Way of Central Kentucky was formed in 2001 at Elizabethtown and currently funds Grayson County Community Alliance, Hospice, Spring-Haven Domestic Violence Program, American Red Cross, America's Second Harvest, Royal Family Kids Camp, Communicare, Kids-Care and Jordan's Gait Therapeutic Stables.
Most of the money coming to United Way comes from individuals who agree to have a donation deducted from their paycheck every pay period.
Minimum donation is typically $1 per paycheck, "which is usually within most people's reach."
"We're pretty excited about this coming together the way it has," said Tyra.
She said the new advisory board is taking the community's habit of taking care of one another up another notch.
Local employers agreeing to hold a campaign include Wal-Mart Super Center, Winn Dixie, Warren Rural Electric, Modern Transmission Development, Leitchfield Plastics, Grayson County Schools, city government and county government, Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center and Robert Bosch Tool Corporation (formerly Vermont American).
