A small Cessna aircraft and two bodies were found in Nolin Reservoir over the weekend.

According to KSP reports, the bodies of Stanley J. Thompson, 48 from Cub Run, Ky., and Ricky L. Lee, 41 from Marysville, Ind., were taken from a submerged plane that crashed into the lake early in the week.

Initial reports said the plane left Vine Grove on Thursday, Oct. 16, with a likely destination of Owensboro. Kentucky State Police released a notice Friday stating the plane may have gone down anywhere from Vine Grove to Rough River.

A utility person working on downed power lines in the Wax area notified authorities that the area should be searched. The Civil Air Patrol was contacted and they located a signal from the airplane's emergency beacon.

Divers from Grayson County entered the water around 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 and found the plane in 21 feet of water near the Wax boat ramp.

According to a witness of the search reports that the plane went nose first into the lake, sustained a broken tail and a partially crumpled wing.

The Federal Aviation Adminstration recovered the plane Monday, Oct. 20 from the lake. It will be leading the investigation in conjunction with the National Transportation Safety Board.

Some concern about an aircraft fuel leakage from the Edmonson County Water District prompted the nearby intake pipe to be shut off. The district pulled water from a deeper site and no water problems have been reported in the county.

Also responding were Grayson County Sheriff, Coroner, Search and Rescue Services, and Wax Volunteer Fire Department.
