The loss, which dropped the Cougars to 7-4 on the season, put a damper on what had been a fine evening for Cougar volleyball. In the opening match, the Cougar freshman easily defeated Daviess County 21-9, 21-7.
The JV Cougars followed that up with a workmanlike 21-13, 21-15 win.
In the varsity match, the first game stayed close until Grayson County served, tied at 15 apiece. A long serve gave the Lady Panthers a rally point and the ball. They then reeled off six straight points to take control of the game.
The Cougars managed a sideout, but could not hold serve and the Lady Cougars got a kill on game point to close things out.
In the deciding game, Grayson County fell behind 1-7 on the first service exchange, but fought back to within a point at 9-10.
They would get no closer, however, as the visitors slowly but steadily pulled away to the victory.
Following a weekend tournament at Lexington Lafayette High School this weekend, the Cougars will play host to Butler County on Tuesday, Sept. 16. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
