After over an hour of discussion in executive session, Clarkson City Commission returned to regular session Thursday and voted to advertise hiring a new truck driver.

The four commissioners favored the motion, but Mayor Bonnie Henderson voted nay.

After the meeting, Henderson said the position came open when Scott Smith was denied a requested raise and he quit.

Before the meeting, Henderson told reporters Smith had not worked since Neil Harrison quit.

Smith said he took two weeks off without pay, which was approved by Henderson. According to Harrison, Smith has been working for him the last two weeks.

Smith has been an employee of the city for over a year and had requested a $2 an hour raise, which would have brought his salary to $9 an hour.

This is the second special called meeting at Clarkson in two weeks.

On Wednesday, Sept 3, Henderson called a special meeting to discuss personnel and a letter about fire dues but no commissioners attended.
