Letter to the Editor: A theater in the old Wal-Mart?

As a student at Grayson County High School, I would like to propose that the empty Wal-Mary building be put to use as a movie theater.

There are several reasons why this is a good proposal for the community.

First, Grayson County young adults and teens have limited activities here. County teens could now have a place to meet that would be centered around good activities instead of finding other less desirable ways to spend their free time.

The second reason is because the additional business a movie theater would help to retain in our community. It would keep our community entertainment dollars in this area. A movie theater in Leitchfield would employ more people from our community, which would add to our county tax base.

I often go to the movie in Elizabethtown or Louisville with my parents or friends. It always takes a lot of time to travel there. If we travel in the evening, the drive is also more dangerous at night.

For this reason, I feel that this proposal for the community is good because it improves on the safety factor of traveling out of the county at night for entertainment.

I feel an editorial from your paper would help to develop community support for using the empty building for this purpose. the location also would be good because a lot of shoppers at the new Wal-Mart would be able to go to a movie following their shopping.

Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. -- Danielle Zachery, Leitchfield
