The Lady Trojans defeated Grayson County in the semi-final match, then defeated the Warren East Lady Raiders in the final.
The tournament brought eight teams together with each team guaranteed three games on the day. In addition to the Cougars, Lady Trojans and Lady Raiders, teams from Ohio County, Whitesville Trinity, Beth Haven Christian, Edmonson County and Breckinridge County participated.
Barren reached the semi-final round by defeating Beth Haven, then taking Ohio County in perhaps the best match of the day, 25-27, 25-21, 15-7. The Cougars got there by beating Edmonson County 26-24, 25-17, then downing Breck County 25-15, 25-18.
The Cougars played some of their best volleyball of the season against the Lady Trojans. After falling behind 0-3 on the first service, the Cougars scratched back to make things close. The two teams traded leads for much of the game and neither team led by more than three points until late in the game.
Tied at 20-20, the Cougars earned a rally point on a bad serve by Barren County. That brought senior Amber Brown to the line leading 21-20. Brown got the benefit of a pair of kills by junior Amy Satterfield to make it 23-20 and the Lady Trojans called timeout.
Back on the floor, senior Savannah Barrett put away another kill to bring it to game point, 24-20. On the ensuing volley, Satterfield had a chance to put the game away, put she hit just wide and Barren County got another chance.
The Lady Trojans earned a point and Cougar Coach Kelli Harris called a timeout. When play resumed, the Cougars were hurt by a questionable call at the net. Satterfield went up to put away a short ball, but the referee said she went over the top of the net and, despite the protestations of Harris, awarded the point to Barren County.
The Trojans scored another point to tie it up, but the next serve was in the net and the Cougars had one more opportunity to win the game. However, Barrett put her serve in the net and Barren County took over at 25-25.
Junior Jessica Mitchell served an ace to give the Lady Trojans their first game point and they made the most of it, putting it away on the next volley.
In the second game, the Cougars fell behind by six, 3-9, in the early going but came back to tie it 9-9 with Barrett serving. The game stayed tight until the Cougars put a run together to take an 18-14 lead.
Barren went ahead 21-22 and it became a battle of rally points after that. The Lady Trojans served match point at 23-24, but senior Tiffany Clemons won a duel at the net to earn the tying point. The Cougars could not hold serve though and the Lady Trojans took the next point to win the match.
Clemons and Satterfield were named to the All-Tournament Team. Others included Patrika Barlow and Piper Lindsey, of Barren County; Rachel Wemhoener and Amanda Kidd, of Ohio County; Brendan Ball and Amy Carman, of Breckinridge County, Jessica Mellencamp and Terri Ann Britt, of Warren East; Lindsey Mills, of Beth Haven, and Cynthia Hogue, of Edmonson County.
