The team defeated Henderson County 13-10 in the opening round, but lost to the Warren County Rebels in the second round, putting them into the loser's bracket of the double-elimination tournament.
They defeated the Camp-bellsville Bombers 4-0 to put them into the championship round, where they would again face the Warren County team needing to win twice to claim the title.
Down 9-3 going into the fifth inning, the Leitchfield stars got a grand slam from April Kinkade that helped them tie the score.
The score stayed at 9-9 until the 10th inning, when a two-out triple by Jessica Pharis drove in the winning run. In the championship game, Leitchfield led the entire game and cruised to a 15-5 win.
The state win qualified the team to take part in a national tournament in Cullman, Ala. on August 1-3.
The team is trying to raise enough money to guarantee that all the players can make the trip. Team Connections has donated uniforms for the team and the city has agreed to pay the entry fee into the tournament.
Anyone who would like to contribute to the team's trip may contact coaches Kevin Pharis (259-9601) or Dwight Embry (259-6336).
