Earlier this year, Walker Chiropractic contracted to be the festival's title sponsor. Dr. Michael Walker said that his practice became involved because of how important the event is to the community.
"Our practice wanted to make sure that the Ice Cream Festival continues to be held and remains a free event for the people of our area," said Dr. Walker.
For the second year, the festival will span two days. On Friday, the Cecilian Bank's Pickin in the Park begins at 6:30 p.m. on the football field behind Grayson County Middle School. The Bear Creek Boys and the Quarry Road Ramblers will serve up hot bluegrass licks throughout the evening. Carnival rides and games, food and ice cream will be available from 6 to 10 p.m.
Saturday gets underway with the annual pancake breakfast at the Leitchfield firehouse. Breakfast will be served from 5 to 11 a.m, with $4 adult and $2 children's admission. All proceeds benefit the Crusade for Children.
The 6th Annual Ice Cream Festival Beauty Pageant presented by All Dressed Up, Team Connections and K105 will be held in the GCMS Auditorium. Registration begins at noon with the pageant starting at 1 p.m. For applications or additional information, call Teresa or Christina at 259-8119.
Carnival rides, games, food and ice cream begin on Saturday at 3 p.m. on the midway.
Weather permitting, Buckle-up Bear and Vince & Larry, The Crash Test Dummies will attend the festival on Saturday night.
Free ice cream, while supplies last, will be served on the football field beginning at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
The climax to each and every Ice Cream Festival is the largest fireworks display in the area, set to a special musical soundtrack broadcast on festival grounds and on K105. This year's theme is "Television's Greatest Moments." Fireworks begin at 9 p.m.
