Two GCHS seniors in accident; one fatality, one in Vanderbilt

Two Grayson County teenagers were involved in a traffic accident in Logan County on Friday, May 16 at approximately 9:13 p.m.

According to a release from Logan County Sheriff's office, the 1994 Chevrolet pick-up truck the teens were traveling in left the road on KY 79 north of Russellville and struck a tree.

Brian Whitworth, 17, was transported to Logan Memorial Hospital by ambulance and pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The cause of death was listed as massive head and internal injuries.

Jason Hayes, also 17, was transported to Vanderbilt University Hospital by LifeFlight. He is currently listed in serious condition.

The accident is being investigated by the Logan County Sheriff's Office, with Deputy Robbie Matthews leading the investigation, assisted by Deputy Tracy White, Deputy David Kitchens and Sheriff Wallace Whittaker.

Russellville Police Department and Auburn Rural Fire Department assisted at the accident scene.

Funeral services for Whitworth were held Monday at Rogers-Oller Funeral Home.
