A two-vehicle accident on Highway 79 Sunday, April 20 resulted in one fatality. According to State Trooper Terry Whittaker, James Furgerson of Caneyville was killed when his vehicle was struck by a vehicle driven by Richard Dupin of Hardinsburg. Dupin was traveling north in a 1996 Ford when his vehicle crossed the center line striking Furgerson's 1978 Mercury head on.

The Ford came to rest in the roadway while the Mercury left the road on the west side, overturning and coming to rest in a ravine.

Furgerson was pronounced dead later that evening at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center by Deputy Coroner Howard Tomes.

A passenger in the Mercury, Donna Furgerson from Caneyville, was taken by Grayson County EMS to University of Louisville Hospital where she is listed in serious condition, according to a hospital spokesperson. Dupin was also transported by EMS. According to Kentucky State Police reports he was treated and released.
