On Friday, March 28 Caneyville City Police Chief Anthony Clark was called to the scene of a one vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 62 East past the four-way traffic stop in Caneyville. A Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Melinda Parks had drifted onto the rumble strip causing Parks to overcorrect and lose control of the vehicle. Skid marks showed the vehicle traveled so feet before coming to rest on it's side off the roadway, trapping five passengers inside the vehicle.

According to Caneyville firefighter, Brian Pharris and James Mudd, Clark and Sheriff's Deputy Mike Woosley helped pull two children from the car before the arrival of the Caneyville Volunteer Fire Department. A third child was pulled from the vehicle and the Jaws of Life were used to free two women from the front of the car. Three Grayson County EMS medical units responded to the scene and the StatFlight helicopter from University of Louisville Hospital was called. Leitchfield Fire Department was called to establish a landing zone on the Wendall H. Ford Parkway.

Parks, Theresa Payton and one four year old child was transferred to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center where, according to Edna Duggins, they were treated and released. Two other infant children in the vehicle were transported by StatCare to Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville. One infant was treated and released. The status of the other infant was unknown at press time.
