The Leitchfield City Council approved a zone change request at its meeting Tuesday, Jan. 21.

The property, located at 410 East Lake Drive, will be changed from residential to commercial. However, the change must include a screen to serve as a buffer on the side that connects to other residential property.

After a short executive session the council emerged to announce it would sell .005 acres of land to Dwight Davis along his property located on South Main street. It was found that an existing building encroaches on the city by about three feet.

The council voted to reappoint Randall Smith as Emergency Management Coordinator for the city.

The council voted to adopt a resolution that brings the city in line with House Bill 174. The bill requires the city to document a city-wide clean up at least twice each year.

Public works director Darrell Harrell said the requirement is something the city does already but adopting the resolution will make the city eligible for reimbursement, up to $3,781.

In new business, council member Dot McCall brought up bringing natural gas to the home of Jay Nichols, located on Highway 1214.

Mayor William Thomason said he would bring the issue up at the next Utilities Commission meeting.

Council members also discussed striping Sunbeam Road. However, the cost is a large factor and the project will need much warmer weather before the stripes will stick to the asphalt.
