Caneyville City Commission heard its audit report at the first meeting of the new year on Monday, Jan. 13. Jason Watson with Watkins, Buckles, Travis and Sloan presented the audit to the commission.
The city's general fund had an increase of $11,328 from June 30, 2001 to June 30, 2002. The special revenue fund showed an increase of $723. The debt service fund ended $1,147 above the 2001 figure.
After the mid-year switch to the county water system, commission members were concerned about the financial impact on the city.
Although it's hard to get a total picture since the water change was reflected during only half the fiscal year, the commission was satisfied with the results. Scott Majors noted, "It appears that buying water, instead of making water isn't going to hurt us."
Commission members then discussed the City Lake Road which has been abused by the illegal dumping of trash. City employee, Avery Fleener and Officer Anthony Clark visited the area to record the trash for the commission. At least three animal carcasses were viewed on video tape.
The commission voted to talk with land owners and County Judge Executive Gary Logsdon about having the end section of the road closed.
The police cruiser will be submitted to repairs based on a recall as soon as the weather permits. The recall repairs will not cost the city anything.
Commission members voted to re-elect Randell Smith as the local emergency management director and Anthony Clark was approved as city fire chief.
City attorney, Mike Alvey, requested to attend a seminar on local government decision making in March. The commission voted in favor of training.
The fire department presented its yearly report on runs after the executive session. Caneyville Volunteer Fire Department made 158 runs in 2002. The break down of those runs are as listed:
80-emergency medical assists
29-motor vehicle accident
13-structure fires
