The Leitchfield Police Department is investigating an alleged abduction that happened in Leitchfield on Wednesday, Dec. 18.

According to Leitchfield Police Detective Gary Troutman, a 20 year-old female resident was the victim in the case.

Troutman said the female had left her vehicle unlocked in the parking lot of the Leitchfield Post Office while she went inside. Upon returning she discovered a black male hiding in the back seat with a gun.

The perpetrator then forced her to drive around Leitchfield for a short time before he instructed her to drive north on Highway 259 toward Breckinridge County.

While near the Peter Cave area the perpetrator made her move over to the passenger side of the vehicle so he could drive.

She told police that when the vehicle was near the intersection of 259 and 401 she decided that she had to do something.

She was able to wrestle her way free of the man and get him out of her vehicle.

Another motorist discovered her in the vehicle at the intersection, but the perpetrator was not in sight.

Troutman said police are looking for a black male in his 20's. He was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt, green jogging pants and brown work boots.

Troutman said if anyone has any information regarding the case to please call the Leitchfield Police Department.

He said all calls would be kept confidential.

Troutman said residents should always lock their vehicle when not in use. Never leave vehicles running while inside a home or business. Always check the back and front seat from outside the vehicle and always keep vehicles parked in a well-lit area at night.
