WKHG/WMTL sounded a state-wide AMBER Alert test at approximately 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10. The alert is part of a state wide warning system to help locate lost or kidnapped children.

The AMBER Plan (America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response) was started in 1996 after the kidnapping and brutal murder of Amber Hagerman from Arlington, Texas.

When a child is kidnapped or lost the biggest enemy is time. AMBER alert helps involve more people in the search, making every minute that much more productive.

As of December 2, 2002 there were 29 states that had accepted the AMBER alert warning. Kentucky

WKHG/WMTL has already used a program similar to the "AMBER Alert" warning. About one month ago a young child was lost and the information was broadcast on the station.

"AMBER Alert" broadcasts the child's name, age, and appearance three times within the first hour and again each hour afterward.
