GRAYSON COUNTY -- The election is over but the people in Leitchfield have been heard. Leitchfield City Council members brought up several points of concern gleaned from their campaigning.

The council members peppered each other with comments on sidewalks, roadways and unsightly property within the city.

The council decided to write a letter to the state about the rough intersection on the corner of Mill Street and Salt River Road. Since Mill Street is a state highway the state is responsible for the upkeep.

Several members had heard complaints about junk cars on city property. City Ordinance #97-16 summarizes two or more junked or wrecked cars denotes a junkyard and is subject to the proper licenses and requirements of a junkyard. The council decided to take action to several offenders according to the ordinance.

Residents asked about the sidewalk on Comanche Way being extended to Wallace Avenue. Although the council discussed the idea at this time the City Council no plans to extend have been made.

Also complaints have been made about fuzzy cable reception in the Walnut Hills Subdivision. The city will write a letter explaining the problem.

Leitchfield City Council approved two rezoning requests at its regularly scheduled meeting Monday night.

Jim Conder requested the property located at 1617 Brandenburg Road be changed from Residential 1 to Commercial 1.

Keith Jones reported one neighboring resident, Ellen Goodman had approached the Planning and Zoning Commission at its last meeting for information about how the zone change would affect her next door property, but no opposition was made.

After some discussion the rezoning was passed unanimously.

Chester Shartzer requested the property located at 207B Marion Street be rezoned from Residential 1 to Commercial 1.

The building that currently exists on the property is a warehouse structure and not designed in anyway for residential living.

Keith Jones believes the property was inappropriately zoned to begin with and he reported, neighbor, Mrs. Audrey Wortham supported the zone change. The Council also unanimously approved this zone change.

Christmas in the Park was discussed and decided to participate with a scene to be displayed at the Rough River attraction.

The Council stepped into executive session to discuss police personnel and land acquisition. Chief Langdon will offer a recommendation on the police personal issue at the next meeting. The land acquisition is up for further discussion but will be disclosed in the next 60 days.

The last order of business was the decision of which council member would attend a meeting at The Centre on Main to discuss the Grayson County Animal Shelter with an organized group of residents. Along with Mayor Thomason, Attorney Smart, Darrell Harrell and Layman Heaverin, council members Dorothy McCall and Jim Blain volunteered to represent the council at the Wednesday night meeting..
