GRAYSON COUNTY -- Tuesday, November 5th was an exciting but tense day for all candidates in the county. Shan Embry was listening to the results at her home and knew she was getting a good response. She also knew Don Cottrell, her opponent was well respected and would garner a significant amount of the votes.
Both candidates had worked in Grayson County for several years. Embry was pretty sure Cottrell would win his native Breckinridge County and she was pleased with her outcome in Grayson County.
Meade County results were coming over the radio before either Grayson County or Breck County's results.
Embry felt comfortable before the Clarkson results came in. She said it had been a long and gruelling race. She is very pleased with the support from all the counties and from the very fine people helping with her campaign.
The race for District Judge of the 46th Judicial District in the 2nd Division was conducted with the utmost respect from both parties.
Embry commented that the caliber of individual running for the position of judge should conduct themself in a courteous manner at all times. They should at all times react as the people would expect from a judge.
After the race Embry said she has a lot of respect for everyone who is a candidate. It is a difficult undertaking.
Now Embry is focusing on preparing for the new role at the beginning of the year. What is her first step? She says, "I need to make a whole bunch of lists!"
In addition to the excitement and tension of the Election Day, Embry also learned her father, in Paducah, had suffered a heart attack and was going into quadruple by-pass heart surgery.
After visiting her father on Wednesday, Embry hurried back to Grayson County to get things together after the election.
Embry is preparing for the swearing-in in January and she is looking forward to working with the entire courthouse staff. She hopes to serve the people of the Grayson, Breckinridge and Meade Counties as well as her predecessor, saying, "I have big shoes to fill, but I'm looking forward to it."
