Uniforms: what's good about them?

Saint Paul Catholic School requires its students to wear uniforms except on special days such as 'jeans day.' The uniforms are navy pants and white shirts.

Ms. Michelle's class told us some of the good things about uniforms. The most outspoken students was Catie Higbee. She thinks the best thing about uniforms is that you don't have to worry about other kids making fun of your clothes.

Another good thing about uniforms is that if your mom buys you something at a yard sale that you don't like, you don't have to wear it to school.

Adam Thomas likes knowing what he's going to wear everyday. Becca Crawford does too. She said not having to take an hour to pick out clothes is a good thing about wearing uniforms.

Amber Smith said if you spill something on your shirt at least it's not a good shirt.

Ms. Michelle reminded the students they do have a choice in the uniform. They can wear pants, shorts, skirts or jumpers. Adam asked about the skirts on boys and they decided the boys could wear kilts but Doug Milliner said he wasn't going to wear any kilt!

Although the uniforms are not the kids' favorite dress they are not really that bad. The teachers say the days go smoother when the kids are in uniforms than on jeans day when they hear "Where did you get those jeans? that shirt? those shoes?" all day.

The uniform also makes shopping for school clothes less of an issue for parents and a money saver. The kids don't have to have all the newer styles of clothes that can be pretty expensive.

That's the opinion of uniforms by students and teachers who know.
