In that earlier loss, the Lady Cougars gave up a 23-point lead in the second half. They came out in this one determined things would be different, opening thing with an 8-0 run that forced South to call a timeout. Coming out of the intermission, the Lady Cougars continued forcing the action with aggressive defense and superb ball-handling and extended their lead to 17-6 at the end of the first period.
In the second period, a three-pointer by Brittany Bird gave Grayson County a 12-point lead, and coach Marcus Whitley went to his bench, which has steadily improved as the season has progressed. Krista Fulkerson ended the half by hitting a basket in the lane which gave the Lady Cougars a 26-15 lead heading into the break.
When play resumed, the Lady Cougars got the ball down low twice to Laura Downs for a pair of buckets that gave them their largest lead of the game at 30-15. The defense continued to apply pressure and did not allow any easy baskets while causing turnovers which led to baskets. A Loren Swift jumper at the end of the third period made the score 35-21.
The Lady Cougar defense kept the Suns in check in the final period as they moved to 11-5 on the year with the win.
Bird finished with 15 points to lead Grayson County, while Downs finished with nine. Swift had eight and Molly Beeler scored four. Fulkerson, Tasha Farris, Kasey Cornwell and Kayla White all scored two points to complete the Lady Cougar scoring.
