The newly remodeled building that houses the Sheriff's Office and the Grayson County Community Alliance, dubbed the County Government Building, was opened in a grand way. Legislators, county magistrates, Judge Executive Gary Logsdon, and many others filled the building to standing room only awaiting the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony.
Members of the Grayson County Chamber of Commerce were on hand to help with the ceremonies.
Judge Logsdon spoke to those gathered and asked for a round of applause for the detention center inmates who helped reduce the cost of the project "Tremendously," said Logsdon. "Without these guys helping with the drywall, painting, and carpentry work, it would have cost thousands of dollars more to renovate the old building."
He also added that it was the foresight of the present magistrates and court to purchase the building. "The public squares around the area are going by the wayside. We need to establish more offices and businesses in the downtown area," stated Logsdon.
Sheriff's deputies manned the grill and cranked out plenty of hotdogs for the visitors to the event. Others brought in a variety of treats and foods for the visitors. Connie Miller estimated that over 300 people attended the event throughout the day.
The official ribbon cutting ceremony took place at 12 noon. Representative Woody Allen and Senator Virgil Moore were on hand to see the festivities. A Lincoln Trail Area Development representative was also on hand to present a check to county officials to help with renovation expenses.
The NRA figure Eddie the Eagle was also in attendance. He is part of the Sheriff's Gun Safety Program.
The day was a success, said Sheriff Hudson, "We hope everyone had a good time and enjoyed the festivities."
