Thousands attended the various fireworks extravaganzas around the county this Fourth of July weekend.

With a fireworks display on both lakes Saturday night and one in Peonia Friday, Grayson County skies were lit up with fireworks for the annual patriotic celebrations.

Friends of Nolin Lake are looking forward to thenext event at the lake, which will be the annual NolinFest that will take place the weekend of August 6 at Moutardier Recreation Shelter.

This daylong event kicks off 10:00 AM with a Poker Run and Classic Car Show. There will be a DJ, two bands, a cornhole tournament, activities for kids with pony rides, inflatables and a petting zoo. You’ll find plenty of vendors with crafts and food, and of course, a grand fireworks display at dark.

September 17 Lake Clean-up: Our 3rd annual clean up in cooperation with the Corps of Engineers. There is plenty of trash and litter along the lakeshore; this is a great opportunity for everyone to show their appreciation for our lake by giving her a good makeover.

All of these events are free admission; the funds come from the generous donations of individuals and local businesses.

There are plenty of events planned for Friends of Rough River Lake, Inc. for the summer season. Saturday, July 16, there will be a Crnhole Tournament at the Rough River Dam State Resort Parks’ Tennis Court.

The next event will be Rough River Lake 50th Anniversary Extravaganza through the month of August.

On August 12 through the 14 there will be free camping at Laurel Branch & Cave Creek Campgrounds (First come, first serve-free camping does not apply to reservations). No day use fees at any U.S.A.C.E. boat ramp

August 12 – Friday from 4 p.m.- 6 p.m. - Congressional Open House and from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m. - Bluegrass Music & Dance at the state park

August 13 – Saturday from 8 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. Friends of Rough welcome participants, Ranger Led Water Safety Program, and Last Minute Triathlon Registration. 9 a.m. ? - The Dam Triathlon at the Rough River Dam - Tailwater Recreation Area. Start at Tailwater Recreation Area below the dam, Paddle 6.4 miles to the Green Farm Resort, Bike 3.2 miles to the Rough River Dam State Resort Park Boat Overflow parking area, Run 1.6 miles through the state park and back to the Tailwater Recreation Area

August 14 – Sunday from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. there will be a Classic Car & Boat Show U.S.A.C.E. Rough River Lake Project Office. All Classic cars and boats are welcome, especially 1950's to 1960's models being that those where the cars being driven around the lake when it became operational in 1961.
