Police closed the highway to allow a helicopter to land and transport the patient to a Louisville hospital.
According to a report issued by the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Kimberly Abbott, 36, of 334 Twin Cove Circle Road, Clarkson, was traveling west on Highway 88 when the 1999 Ford Ranger she was driving struck a ditch and overturned.
Abbott was removed from the scene and taken to the 112-mile marker of the WK Parkway by Grayson County Emergency Medical Services. The patient was then transferred from the ambulance to the helicopter from Air Methods Kentucky, then transported to University of Louisville Hospital
“The helicopter landed at the WK parkway because that was the best place for it land and the easiest way to transport the patient,” said Chief Deputy Sheriff Tony Willen. “Highway 88 is so rural and windy there was no where for the helicopter to land.”
According to Willen, he had spoken to family members and Abbott was listed in critical condition on Friday morning at the University of Louisville hospital.
