A Tennessee man was arrested and charged with arson on the church fire that destroyed the Stone's View United Methodist Church.

According to a Release from Kentucky State Policew, on February 23, State police detective Terry Scott, arrested Randy Shawn Matthews, 37, of Cowan, TN, charging him with second-degree-arson and third-degree-burglary.

The charges stem from February 20 investigation into the burglary and arson of the Stone’s View United Methodist Church in Grayson County.

Matthews had burglarized the church and then set fire to the building, reported Scott.

Matthews then stole a vehicle from a residence in the vicinity of the church and apprehended in the vehicle by the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office and charged with being in possession of a stolen vehicle.

The investigation was a joint effort with the Kentucky State Fire Marshall’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Arson Task Force.

Matthews is incarcerated in the Daviess County jail awaiting extradition to Grayson County. No bail has been set.
