With a quick and unanimous vote on Friday morning, the Grayson County Fiscal Court approved next year’s tax rate of 6.4 cents per $100 of assessed value.

The rate, which is 0.1 cent per $100 of value lower than last year’s rate will bring in the same amount of profit for the county as was accrued the previous year.

In other county matters, the group agreed to approve the use of a collections company by the Grayson County Detention Center at the request of Jailer Darwin Dennison.

Dennison explained that inmates are required to pay processing, booking and other fees, and often leave the jail still owing money.

“It’s hard for us, with our limited resources, to chase these,” Dennison said.

The proposed company is called Pay My Jailer, and according to County Attorney Clay Ratley, is used by other agencies across the state.

Ratley explained to the court that the same company handles his office’s collections of cold checks with “good success.”

The court approved two other resolutions as well, including the five-year solid waste plan and the acceptance of $330,396 in flex-funds for transportation from the state, which will cover county-wide projects such as road resurfacing.

Finally, the court held a closed session to discuss personnel, though no action was taken at the time on the matter.
