Local Halloween activities after a ghastly good time
by Brittany Wise
Reporter

Halloween is drawing near, and in case you and your little goblins are looking for some fun holiday activities, here is a list of the spook-tacular events planned for Grayson County this year.

Trick-or-treating hours have been set from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday night, October 31, across the county, and trick-or-treaters are greatly encouraged to adhere to this guideline for their own safety and the convenience of those passing out treats.

The most largely-attended local Halloween event is the “Safe Spot” held at the Grayson County Fairgrounds. According to organizer Angie Jones, an average of 3,000 kids have shown up at the Safe Spot for the last few years, and around the same turn-out is expected this Halloween.

Safe Spot hours coincide with the county-wide trick-or-treat hours, running from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., and Jones said that the event will include lots of vendors’ booths hosted by various groups passing out all sorts of treats.

There will also be “activities and games for the kids,” Jones said, and R & B productiosn will be present to provide the music.

Another great event will be hosted by the Annetta Volunteer Fire Department, who will have a “Trunk-or-Treat” event in the firehouse parking lot.

The group will be setting up from about 4 p.m., and volunteer Frank Renfrow said that he expects the event to be “building up better this year” than the last.

First Baptist Church in Leitchfield will also be having a “Trunk-or-Treat” event again this year, which will include candy, popcorn and cotton candy as well as a hayride, 52-feet-long obstacle course, and ‘Moon Bounce.’

All children are welcome to attend, but they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The First Baptist Trunk-or-Treat will be open from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Rough River Dam State Resort Park is having a Halloween “Spooktacular!” at their campground beginning Friday evening, October 26 and lasting until Saturday, October 27. Many family-friendly activities, such as hayrides, pumpkin painting and decorating, Halloween crafts, and a campsite decorating contest will help campers enjoy the weekend before Halloween.

There will also be a costume contest and trick-or-treating throughout the campground.

For more information on the activities at the state park, call 1-800-325-1713.

The Millwood Community Center will be hosting it’s annual Halloween Party the night before Halloween this year. The party will run from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday night, October 30th.

If a haunted house is what you are in the mood for, Lyndsey’s Haunted Barn will scare your socks off with a tour of their ghostly facility located about nine miles west of Leitchfield, off of Highway 54.

The terrifying bunch at Lyndsey’s also donates a major portion of their profits to community groups in need of funding, so you will not only be getting plenty of thrills and chills, but will also be BOOsting their fundraising in the process.
