Hundreds of people gathered in Leitchfield and Caneyville Friday evening, Nov. 30, for ceremonies kicking off the cities’ holiday celebrations.

In Leitchfield, crowds gathered at the pavilion in James D. Beville City Park for the annual “Light Up Leitchfield” ceremony. Organized by the city and Grayson County tourism commissions, it included hot cocoa, caroling by the Wilkey Elementary School chorus, and a visit by Santa.

Early in the ceremony, the lighted displays in the park were turned on. More than 50 are in place this year, and will remain lighted from dusk until 10 p.m. daily through December.

In Caneyville, the crowd gathered in the lawn and courtyard of the Bank of Caneyville property. The Caneyville Elementary School chorus performed several carols, and Jeremy Atwood of New Harvest Baptist Church in Caneyville gave a seasonal devotional.

The community tree on the bank lawn — topped by a red ribbon — was also lighted.
