A free concert, hosted by locally owned musical instrument store Hayes Piano and Music, will take place on Saturday, April 20.
The concert is set to take place at 6 p.m. inside Hayes Piano, located in Southgate Mall in Leitchfield, and store owner Norbet Hayes said listeners can expect to hear a variety of musical genres, including gospel and bluegrass.
Several local musicians will perform, including Hayes, John Day (piano teacher at Hayes Piano), Mark Collins (guitar teacher at Hayes Piano), and a number of Day’s and Collins’ students.
There will be no charge to attend the concert, but donations will be accepted, and all proceeds will go to provide housing for a 19-year-old in Liberia.
A lifelong Leitchfield resident and musician, Hayes said April 20’s performance will be a continuation of his concert series that ran through the summer of 2012.
Hayes said that due to the popularity of and appreciation for his concerts last summer—at one performance he said counted at least 80 people in attendance—he has decided to carry on the concerts during the spring and summer of 2013, as well.
Hayes said that until the weather warms up, the concerts will likely continue to be held in his store, as opposed to outdoors in the Southgate Mall, as was customary last summer. Regardless of location, however, Hayes said listeners will hear a lot more from him and his fellow musicians in the coming months.
“We’ll probably have a performance every week,” Hayes said. “We’ll either wait until it gets warmer or go ahead and put them on in the store, but we’ll definitely be playing more.”
