A Clarkson burglary on Wednesday, June 20, prompted Kentucky State Police to initiate a search for the “lowlifes” who robbed the home of grieving parents Cindy and Dennis Higdon while they were attending their murdered son’s funeral.
According to a press release from KSP Trooper Norman Chaffins, the burglary occurred at some point between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday while the Higdon family was attending the funeral service of 20-year-old Christian Higdon at Rogers-Oller Funeral Home in Leitchfield and his burial at St. Benedict Cemetery in Wax.
The Higdon’s home, on Higdon Road in Clarkson, was “ransacked,” and among the items reported stolen were several pieces of jewelry, four firearms, tools, three laptops, two video game consoles and a few hundred dollars.
“I don’t think it was a random act,” Chaffins said Friday morning, “I think they knew that the whole family would be gone.”
A similar incident occurred in late March in the Hardin County community of Cecilia, when Normaline Skees’ home was burglarized while she was attending her husband’s funeral.
“We’re not able to tie those two together,” Chaffins said, though the similarities between the two shockingly repulsive crimes are evident.
AS KSP continues their investigation into the incident, the Higdon’s home insurance company, Farm Bureau, is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator(s).
Farm bureau representative and Leitchfield Mayor William Thomason explained that the reward may be claimed by contacting the Kentucky State Police hotline at (270) 222-5555 with information regarding the burglar(s).
Also, friends of the Higdon family have established a fund for donations toward a reward for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person(s) responsible for the burglary.
Donations can be dropped off at the Clarkson office of the Bank of Clarkson, or mailed to the bank at 101 E. Main St., Clarkson KY 42726, Attn: Vanda Ray.
