Leitchfield Police Chief Bart Glenn announced his plans to retire on April 1, 2013 at the regularly-scheduled Leitchfield City Council meeting on Monday, February 19.

Glenn, who has served for the Leitchfield Police Department (LPD) for twenty years, said his decision came merely as a result of timing. As of March 31, he will have put in enough time with the police department to retire, he said.

Glenn said he has enjoyed serving with the LPD and witnessing the many changes over the years.

“[My time with the LPD] has been very rewarding,” he said. “As Police Chief, I’ve worked for Mayor Thomason for six years, which has been a great experience. I’ve worked for a great community with great officers. The community is very supportive of its police officers.”

A graduate of GCHS’ class of 1977, Glenn started in law enforcement in February of 1982, when he moved to Houston, Texas to enroll in their police academy. Glenn started the academy in June of 1982 and worked for the police force in Houston until the opportunity presented itself for him to return to Leitchfield.

“I always wanted to come back to Leitchfield,” he said. “It’s where I grew up. It’s not as exciting as Houston, but we’ve had our problems over the years. Plus, it’s a good place to raise a family.”

Glenn said he intends to continue selling real-estate and enjoy the relaxation that will accompany retirement.
