If you walked down the halls of Clarkson Elementary School on Thursday morning, you would have been pleased to spot not just teachers, but architects, physicians, chefs, hair dressers, police officers - and, yes, even famous country music singers.
The school’s kindergarten classes were having a great time dressing up like members of their favorite professions, and the boys and girls were more than happy to explain their occupation of choice and its importance.
“I’m going to be a teacher,” one boy explained, pointing to his name tag with a very official-looking ‘Mr.’ before his name. “Teachers are very important.”
His own teacher smiled warmly at his aspirations, while a classmate gave her a huge hug.
Nearby, a future county musician twirled her microphone while a mischievous-looking miniature fire-fighter stuffed his fists in his pockets and chatted with a boy in a mechanic’s outfit.
“Architects are very important, too,” a sandy-haired young man explained, straightening his tie.
The students have been treated to a number of presentations this week from workers in a variety of fields who have come to teach them about what they do in hopes of inspiring some of these bright young minds to follow in their footsteps one day.
From truck drivers to state troopers to newspaper reporters, the kids were able to be exposed to some interesting jobs and learned how essential they each are to our society functioning as a whole.
Also, the children had a sense of pride as their own parents or grandparents spoke to their class about their careers.
While their aspirations may change somewhere along the path from kindergarten to graduation, these students will have a solid understanding of all of the different careers that make the world go round.
