Caney Creek Road saw a wreck involving a horse-drawn buggy and a car on Wednesday morning at approximately 8:40 a.m.

Both car and buggy were travelling south on the roadway around six miles west of the city of Leitchfield at the time of the accident, according to an accident report filed by Chief Deputy Tony Willen, with the Grayson County Sheriff’s Department.

27-year-old Daniel S. Stewart, of Caneyville, was operating a 1996 Oldsmobile 88 when, according to the testimony he gave the officer at the officer at the scene, he rounded a corner and then saw the horse and buggy in his lane. Stewart said he attempted to brake and avoid contact, but was unable to do so.

The passengers in the buggy, Tobies Gingrich, 45, and Ida Gingrich, 18, both also of Caneyville, relayed to Willen that Stewart’s vehicle was not travelling very quickly when it approached them, and Stewart was very nearly able to miss the buggy altogether.

The passengers of the buggy were uninjured, as were Stewart and his passenger, Timothy Mudd.

The buggy sustained notable damage, while the Oldsmobile received minor to moderate damage in the collision.
