A Grayson County Sheriff’s Department investigation led to the arrest of 36-year-old Walter Redmon, of Leitchfield.
According to Deputy Buck Meredith, he and Deputy Kevin Newton responded to Redmon’s residence at 708 West Main Street in Leitchfield at approximately 9:19 p.m. on July 2, as part of an ongoing investigation by Meredith and GCSD Detective Jeff Kelsey.
The officers were surprised to find nearly 20 meth labs on the premises. “That’s more labs than any officer at the scene had ever seen,” Meredith said.
The labs were not active, or currently cooking the drug, but had been used to make methamphetamine.
Some of the labs were older than others, Kelsey explained, though even the older ones contained the “milky white residue that is consistent with cooking meth.”
Also discovered were several meth precursors in the home and in an out building on the property, according to Meredith.
It took officers about four hours to decontaminate the area.
The Sheriff’s Department had been looking into Redmon’s activities “for a while,” Meredith said.
Kelsey explained that Redmon had been a person of interest to the department after having made a suspicious sudafed purchase. This medication, which is now closely restricted and monitored, is a necessary ingredient to make the illegal drug methamphetamine.
Also, Kelsey pointed out, a tipster had offered the information that Redmon was potentially cooking the drug.
Redmon was arrested and charged with manufacturing methamphetamine. He is currently being lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
Also at the residence at the time of the discovery were Redmon’s girlfriend, 36-year-old Angela England, and four children between the ages of eight months and 15 years old.
England has not been charged, but further arrests are likely pending and the investigation is ongoing.
